Day 1 Arrival in Srinagar
30 Nov, 20-1
A trip to the heart of Kashmir, also referred to as "Paradise on Earth," is not just a voyage; it's an experience for the senses and emotions. This 5-day travel plan, which will immerse you in the area's picturesque beauty and cultural richness, guarantees an amalgamation of peaceful natural surroundings, historic splendor, and local warmth. From Dal Lake's serene waters to Gulmarg's lush meadows and Pahalgam's rural quaintness, every day presents a fresh page of this unforgettable book.
The journey starts when you alight from the flight at Srinagar International Airport. The 35-minute city drive primes you, taking you through the vibrant streets of New Srinagar. As you drive over the Abdullah Bridge, an essential lifeline linking the banks of the ancient Jhelum River, the city's distinctive fusion of modernity and tradition becomes evident. Once you've settled into your hotel, the real magic of Srinagar unfolds at the legendary Dal Lake.
A Shikara boat ride on Dal Lake is a quintessential Kashmiri experience. The wooden boats with beautiful decorations move serenely over the calm water, providing a front-row view of floating gardens, houseboats, and active life on the lake. The gentle ruffle of the water and the distant hum of the city set a meditative and serene mood. With the sun dipping into the horizon, painting the hills around the lake golden, the lake itself becomes a dazzling canvas.
The night is spent discovering the city's creative heart. A trip to the city's handicraft bazaar is a sensory celebration, where you can discover finely crafted pashmina shawls, intricately carved walnut wood pieces, and hand-knotted rugs, each one a testament to the craft of local artisans. No trip to Srinagar is complete without a visit to its renowned Mughal Gardens. Created by the Mughal emperors, they are a quintessential example of formal Persian garden design, reflecting tiered terraces, running water channels, and colorful flowerbeds. We'll visit Nishat Garden, which is called the "Garden of Joy," with its breathtaking view of Dal Lake. Next is Shalimar Garden, the “Abode of Love,” a more formal and grand garden. Chashmashahi, or the “Royal Spring,” is famous for its natural spring and serene setting. Finally, we’ll visit Pari Mahal, a seven-terraced garden overlooking Dal Lake that glows with a golden light in the evening. After a day of exploration, you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and a restful overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 2 Srinagar to Gulmarg - Meadow of Flowers
30 Nov, 20-1
We'll depart after a delicious breakfast for Gulmarg, which translates to "the meadow of flowers." The drive is a treat for the eyes, as the scenery gradually changes from city congestion to beautiful rolling hills. We'll drive through the pleasant town of Tangmarg, a step before Gulmarg, before undertaking the last 14-kilometer climb.
When you arrive in Gulmarg, you're impressed by the long, open meadows lined by giant pine and fir trees. The pièce de résistance of the day has to be the Gondola cable car system, one of the highest in the world. The eight-minute ropeway journey takes you up to the first stage with the most breathtaking views of the entire valley. The top view is just beautiful with the snow-covered peaks of the Pir Panjal range extending as far as your eyes can see.
Once you've gone down, you have the option of taking a relaxed horse-riding excursion. The ponies of the countryside, with brightly colored trappings, make for a delightful means to discover the expansive meadows and peaceful forest trails. The fresh mountain air and peaceful tranquility of the landscape will leave you absolutely rejuvenated. Dinner and overnight stay at a Gulmarg hotel will be the perfect culmination of this day of natural beauty.
Day 3 Gulmarg - a Day in the Meadows
30 Nov, 20-1
Today is spent basking in the historical and natural beauty of Gulmarg. It is a place more than a mere hill station. The town was referred to as "meadow of flowers" by Sultan Yusuf Shah of the Chak Dynasty, who often visited the region with his queen Habba Khatoon during the 16th century. It is believed that Mughal Emperor Jahangir gathered 21 various types of wildflowers from these same meadows for his gardens.
The British subsequently discovered its appeal, employing it as a summer resort in the 19th century to get away from the burning temperatures of the North Indian plains. This fecund history has stamped itself upon the town, which seems a combination of untamed, natural beauty and charm of colonial times. You can while the day away strolling along the peaceful walking paths, watching the peace of the golf course, or merely sitting back and absorbing the breathtaking vistas. The crisp mountain air and natural beauty make for the ideal setting for a day of unadulterated relaxation and introspection. Night stay and dinner at a hotel will help you recharge to the core.
Day 4 Gulmarg to Pahalgam - the Valley of Shepherds
30 Nov, 20-1
Following breakfast, we shall proceed to Pahalgam, a town commonly referred to as the "Valley of Shepherds." The drive itself is a visually pleasing experience with us passing through varied landscapes. We'll drive via Pampore, famous for its saffron plantations, and Avantipura, which houses the remains of a historic temple. We'll also drive through Bijbehara village, locally referred to as the "breadbasket of Kashmir" due to its rich soils.
As we turn from the national highway at Khanabal and ride through the busy city of Anantnag, the view becomes even more scenic. The road follows parallel to the Lidder River, its clear water flowing in the reverse direction, making a stunning natural beauty.
On reaching Pahalgam, you will check-in to your hotel and will be free for the rest of the day. You may stroll along the Lidder River banks in leisure, visit the local bazaar, or just unwind in the tranquil surroundings. The tranquil, rural beauty of Pahalgam is a great relief from the city life in Srinagar and the alpine scenery of Gulmarg. The day will be at leisure in the evening followed by an overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 5 Departure - Memories of Paradise
30 Nov, 20-1
Following a last Kashmiri breakfast, it will be time to bid farewell to this lovely country. We will help transfer you to the airport for your departure flight home. You'll depart with not only photographs, but a treasure trove of memories to last you a lifetime—the soothing rhythm of a Shikara gliding on Dal Lake, the majestic vistas of the Gulmarg Gondola, and the serene tranquility of the Lidder River in Pahalgam. Kashmir leaves an indelible mark on your heart, and these memories will irresistibly beckon you back to paradise once more.
